Morpheus Intravaginal Radiofrequency Treatments (Non-surgical)
What is it?
Morpheus Intravaginal Radiofrequency (M8V) treatment is a non-invasive, non-surgical procedure to treat incontinence and enhance women's intimate health and well-being. This non-surgical, minimally invasive procedure utilizes radiofrequency (RF) to neuromodulate, strengthen and remodel the pelvic floor, as well as rejuvenate vaginal tissues, addressing a range of concerns that many women experience due to aging, childbirth, or hormonal changes. Note that Intravaginal RF is not covered by OHIP (private pay).
How it works
Dr. Garbens often uses (intravaginal RF) in combination with other pelvic floor and body treatments to treat a number of medical conditions such as:
Genitourinary syndrome of menopause.
Incontinence (leakage of urine)
Overactive bladder
Vaginal laxity and dryness
Decreased sensation
Recurrent UTIs
Lichen sclerosis
Key points:
Intravaginal RF is in office procedure, with sessions typically lasting about an hour. A probe goes into the vagina and delivers RF to the vaginal tissues. There's little to no downtime involved, making it a convenient option for women.
Dr. Garbens offers either Plus 90 or Morpheus 8V treatments, depending on your urogenital health concerns.
Whether you're looking to restore a sense of normalcy post-childbirth, alleviate symptoms related to menopause, or simply enhance your intimate experience, intravaginal radiofrequency offers a safe, effective solution.
Dr. Garbens offers MV8 intravaginal treatments through Eira Medical.
Bulkamid (Non-surgical)
What is it?
Bulkamid is a treatment used to help people with urinary incontinence (leakage of urine). It’s a type of non-surgical procedure that uses gel-like substance to support the muscles and tissues that control urine flow. Bulkamid is used for people with stress urinary incontinence, which is when urine leaks during physical activities like coughing, laughing, sneezing, or exercise.
How it works
The surgeon injects a small amount of a gel-like substance called Bulkamid into the tissues around the urethra (the tube that carries urine out of the body). The gel works by adding volume and support to the tissues, helping the urethra stay closed when it should, reducing or stopping urine leakage.
Unlike surgery, this is a simple, minimally invasive procedure that doesn’t require cuts or stitches. It’s done in a clinic with local anesthetic or in the operating room.
The injection takes less than half an hour and doesn’t require a hospital stay. Over time, the gel is naturally absorbed by the body, and the effect may wear off after a while. Some people may need to have the procedure repeated.
Key points:
Bulkamid is a non-surgical treatment for urinary incontinence that involves injecting a gel-like substance around the urethra to help prevent urine leakage.
It’s a quick, effective, and minimally invasive option for people looking for relief from stress urinary incontinence.
It is not permanent and may require repeat procedures in the future.
Mid Urethral Sling
What is it?
A mid urethral sling (MUS) is a common surgical treatment for stress urinary incontinence (SUI), which is when a person leaks urine during physical activities like coughing, sneezing, or exercise. The sling helps support the urethra, the tube that carries urine, to prevent leaks. It is one of the most effective treatments for SUI.
How it works
The patient is put to sleep with a general anesthetic. The surgery takes about 1 hour.
An incision (cut) is made in the vagina and a small strip of material (synthetic mesh) is placed under the urethra like a hammock or sling. This sling supports the urethra and helps it stay closed when pressure is put on the bladder, such as during physical activities.
Key points:
The MUS is one of the most effective treatment options for SUI, however it is the most invasive and requires insertion of a small piece of synthetic mesh. The mesh is permanent.
The recovery time is relatively quick, and most patients can return to regular activities within a 4-6 weeks.
The sling is considered permanent, and results usually last for about 10-15 years.
