Prostate Cancers
What is Prostate Cancer?
Prostate cancer arises from the prostate gland, primarily affecting older men and ranking as the second most common cancer among men. Its risk factors include age, family history, and genetics. Dr. Garbens’ uses imaging (prostate MRI), blood/urine tests, and physical examination (digital rectal examination) to determine your risk of having prostate cancer. Early-stage prostate cancer often shows no symptoms, but advanced stages might present urinary problems or pain.
Treatment for Prostate Cancer
Treatment varies based on how aggressive your cancer is and can range from active surveillance (close monitoring) for slow-growing tumors to focal therapy (treating the tumour only), surgery (removing the entire prostate), radiation, hormone therapy, and chemotherapy for more aggressive forms.
Dr. Garbens offers NanoKnife focal therapy as part of North Toronto Prostate Centre Inc. She offers Nanoknife treatment for prostate cancer in eligible patients.
Please note that Nanoknife is not covered by OHIP and is currently private pay.
